Bird watching is one of the most fulfilling and relaxing hobbies around. That's why it's one of the most popular past times - not only in the U.S., but also in the rest of the world. It's a hobby you can enjoy just about anywhere, even your own backyard. That's also why you see more stores selling bird houses every year. They are not just to be a decorative display for your outdoors or garden, they are also a great way to protect your feathered friends from the environment and predators.

People who love birds also tend to care about the environment. A great way in which to provide shelter and protection to the birds and at the same time help the world is by recycling materials. You can recycle used pop bottles to make a pop bottle bird house or bird feeder.  Here are the instructions that you would need to create a one of a kind pop bottle bird house that would not only attract birds into your yard, but also help save the world through recycling.

Instructions for Building a Pop Bottle Bird House

One of the main materials that you need in creating a pop bottle bird house is of course, a pop bottle.  A two liter bottle is best. Remove all of the labels and clean the inside of the bottle. Let the bottle dry. Cut a little door into the side of the bottle. Then either paint the bottle with a non translucent paint or cover it with  weather proof fabric. Lastly, hang in on the tree and wait for the birds to discover it.

If you want to make the pop bottle bird house more colorful and exciting, you could paint designs and draw on all the materials before or after placing them on the bird house.

Instructions for Creating a Pop Bottle Bird Feeder

Again, a two liter bottle is a good size to use. Remove labels and clean the bottle as before. Drill two small holes at the bottom of the bottle and remember that the bottom of it will be the top of the feeder. Thread through one hole into another and twist the ends of the wire to make a loop for hanging your feeder.  When sealing the holes, you could use some duct tape or caulk so that rain and other outside elements could not get into your pop bottle bird house.

Lastly, drill a 5/16” holes on the opposite sides of the bottle and insert an eight or nine inch by 5/16 - dowels into the pairs of holes where birds could rest.  Repeat these instructions until you have created a series of perches.
