Milk Bottle Bird House

Making a milk bottle bird house will not only help in a minor way towards saving the environment, it will also satisfy the the need in many of us to build something with our hands.

Birding or bird watching is a great hobby and pastime for those that enjoy the feeling of the outdoors and being close to nature.  If you are a bird watcher, you probably like gardening as well so it's natural that you would want to make the landscape of your yard or garden as beautiful as possible and populate it with different kinds of plants and flowers.

You have also probably already placed a bird house or two to accentuate the whole picture of your yard and at the same time, provide a temporary shelter to your feathered friends.

But there is another way in which you could create a bird house and at the same time, help the environment through recycling and reusing some of the materials that you may think already belongs to the garbage and one of the best ways to do that is by creating a milk bottle bird house.  You don't need to buy a craft store bird house kit. If you are clueless as to how to make a milk bottle bird house, then here are the instructions you could follow to build one for you own yard.

Milk Bottle Bird House Instructions

Building a milk bottle bird house for your feathered friends is one of the greatest ways in which you could help save the environment, save yourself some money, and at the same time, provide a temporary nesting place or shelter for the birds that may be frolicking in your area.  You may think that creating a milk bottle bird house is hard or complicated but the instruction as to how to construct it is pretty much like the instructions that you have for creating recycled pop bottle to create a bird house.

First thing that you will need is a milk bottle or a half a gallon of empty milk bottle. Clean it thoroughly with soap and water.  Let the milk bottle dry out and be sure that it is are free from dirt and debris.  Once it is dry, drill two small holes at the bottom of the bottle - this will serve as the top of the milk bottle bird house.  Next, thread through one hole into another and  twist the ends of the wire to make a loop for hanging your feeder.  Use a duct tape or caulk to seal the holes to be sure that rain does not enter the bird house.

Finally, drill 5/16” holes on the opposite sides of the bottle and insert an eight or nine inch by 5/16” dowels into the pairs of holes where birds can rest.  If you are interested in making a series of perches, just repeat these instructions but make sure that you create an ample amount of distance in between.  Do not forget to cut out an entry way into your bird house on one of the sides and create a right size of a square or rectangle where you want your birds to enter.
